Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 by Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch. Atlantic Records signed the band in 2002 and they released their debut album, Leave a Whisper in 2003. It peaked at number fifty three on the Billboard 200 and spawned a number of hit singles which include "Fly from the Inside", "45" and "Simple Man". Leave a Whisper is Shinedown’s best-selling album and has been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States. In October of 2005 Shinedown released their sophomore album, Us and Them. The album had three singles, Save Me", "Heroes" and "I Dare You". Us and Them has been certified Gold by the RIAA in the United States, even though it is the band’s least successful album to date. Shinedown’s third album, and their latest is titled "The Sound of Madness". It was released on June 24, 2008. The album’s lead single, "Devour", was released to radio on May 5, 2008. Every single they have released has climbed into the Top 5 of the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and to date, Shinedown has sold over six million albums worldwide.
