Nelly Furtado was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She is a singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress of Portuguese ancestry. In October of 2004 she released her debut album "Whoa, Nelly!" through DreamWorks Records. It peaked at number twenty-four on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and opened to critical acclaim. It produced three international singles: "I’m Like a Bird", "Turn off the Light" and "…On the Radio (Remember the Days)". Whoa, Nelly! had sold seven million copies worldwide as of August 2006. In 2003, Nelly Furtado released her second album, Folklore. It has been certified Gold in the U.S. and the U.K. and Platinum in Canada and Germany. On June 20, 2006, Nelly Furtado released Loose through Geffen Records. It had sold more than seven million copies worldwide. She has won several awards which include A Grammy in 2002 for "I’m like a Bird" and a Juno Award in 2007 for "Promiscuous".Nelly Furtado has sold over 18 million albums worldwide and currently resides in Toronto, Canada. She has also appeared on American television in several series such as Roswell, One Life to Live and CSI: NY. She also appeared in the video game adaptation of Max Payne.
