Lily Allen was born on May 2, 1985 in Hammersmith, London, England. She was born the daughter of Welsh-born comedian and actor Keith Allen and English, Portsmouth-born, film producer Alison Owen. Allen told Loveline that, when she was 11, she was singing an Oasis tune in the school playground when a teacher overheard and suggested she use the talent. She took singing lessons with the teacher, Rachel Santesso. She sang at a school play and claimed that the audience was brought to tears at the sight of a troubled young girl doing something good. At that point Lily Allen said she knew that music was something she needed to do. Allen played piano to grade 5 standard and achieved grade 8 in singing. She also played violin, guitar and trumpet as well as being a member of a chamber choir. In 2006, Lily Allen released her debut album, Alright, Still. It was commercially successful in the United Kingdom, having been certified 3× platinum. Alright, Still has sold over 2,600,000 copies worldwide. The album earned a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 50th Grammy Awards. She is released her second studio album, "It’s Not Me, It’s You", in February of 2009.
