Basshunter is the stage name of Jonas Erik Altberg. He was born on December 22, 1984, in Halmstad, Sweden. Basshunter released his first albums, The Old Shit and The Bassmachine, through his own web site in 1999 and 2004 respectively. In April 2006, he signed his first contract with Warner Music, releasing his first single, "Boten Anna". In Scandinavia, the song became a hit instantly and was the first ever Swedish language song to reach number one on the Dutch Top 40 Chart. In September of that same year he released his debut studio album (his third album total), "LOL <(^^,)>".It peaked at number 41 on the Finland Albums Top 40. After the limited success of the album, Basshunter went back to the studio and in 2008 released "Now You’re Gone". The album features English remakes of older Basshunter hits, and entered the UK Albums Chart at number 1. The album has sold an excess of three hundred thousand copies and has gone platinum in the U.K. In New Zealand, the album peaked at number one in its fifth week, and was certified Gold after six weeks selling over 7,500 copies. The album spent a total of two weeks at number one.
