Atreyu is an American metalcore band that was formed in 1 998 in Orange County, California. The band consists of vocalist/lyricist Alex Varkatzas, guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, bassist Marc McKnight and drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller. The band was originally named "Retribution" but later changed their name to "Atreyu" after the character of the same name from the fantasy book (movie) The Neverending Story when they found out that another band had been using their original name. Atreyu released their debut album, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses on June 4, 2002, under Victory Records. The album has sold more than 240,000 copies worldwide to date. In the summer of 2002, Atreyu released their second studio album, The Curse. The album went on to produce two singles, "Right Side of the Bed" and "The Crimson.". Atreyu released, A Death-Grip on Yesterday, their third album on March 28, 2006. A week after its release, it had sold more than 69,000 copies and started out at #9 on the Billboard 200. It has gone on to sell more than 340,000 copies. Atreyu has since released Lead Sails Paper Anchor, their fourth album in 2007.
